All you have to do is be VERY careful to keep ALL raw meat separate from all other foods, and never make the mistake of double-clicking a piece of raw meat when you're picking up a bunch of it to cook.

Once you reach Cooking Skill level 5, you will never get food poisoning from any manufactured food or cooked meat, even if it's ruined. I've never found it worth the effort to go to that length, though, because. This means to get the longest theoretical shelf life out of a piece of meat, leave it outdoors and raw until it drops to 50%, then take it inside and cook it, and the store it outdoors. Cooked meats decay slower than raw meats. Meats and most dry goods (candy bars, energy bars, airline dinners) decay slower outdoors than indoors.

Most canned items (beans, peaches, sardines, soda) decay slower indoors than outdoors. The only relevant consideration there is that ruined items despawn when inside containers, but do not despawn when in the open, so food items should never be stored or left in containers unless for some reason other than practicality. Wont a nearby wolf outside eat bear meat on the ground? I mean, thats a really good idea that i plan on using now that i think about it but what if wolves eat it 0.- Degradation of food items does not appear to be affected by being stored in or out of containers. I like to do the one pounders for building harvesting and cooking skills and for having 500 calorie snacks.

Usually when I harvest a bear for example I'll harvest 1 pound slabs and keep dropping them on the ground about 20 pounds at a time.I can get the whole bear harvested and cooked with none wasted and all fresh. At worst near the end some pieces of the raw meat will be gamey(around 85%) but after cooking it's fresh again.

But first, make it so predators eat meat left outside, and that meat decays away into nothing if dropped on the floor, like it does when inside a container. I usually put raw and cooked meat outdoors because the decay rate is much lower in the cold. Leave at the fire for 12 hours and it becomes jerky. nothing ever despawns except a fully harvested animal.and as far as food goes canned goods and snacks will decay. Originally posted by Candyman:If I place guns, clothes, cans, knives, etc on the ground (indoors), will it decay or despawn? Even if it hasnt been touched for like 50 in game days?įrom my experience everything has a decay rate.not sure on rifles and tools though.I once made a second pair of rabbit mittens for a backup and it slowly decayed a bit just stting in the locker.
